Universal Serial Bus Controller driver problem In device manager my USB controller has the dreaded yellow question mark! Download torrent while using vpn connection. I recently acquired this laptop, and it has 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port. Both USB 2.0 ports have been working just fine, but the USB 3.0 port seems to not work at all.. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers plenty of times, but no avail. When I plug in a mouse into the 3.0 port the mouse lights up, but it doesn't work. I've been installing other drivers onto this laptop as well (when I got the laptop it was a fresh install without any drivers), and after one restart the USB 3.0 port seemed to work. But not it isn't working again. Any suggestions?
Types Of Universal Serial Bus
I just did a complete Windows 7 pro Dell restore on my 990. For some reason, this 2nd installation of Windows 7 pro left the 'Universal serial bus (USB) controller' uninstalled in the device manager. Despite my first installation using the same Dell system restore disk and the same downloaded drivers (Chipset and all available drivers), it DID NOT leave the 'Universal serial bus (USB) controller' uninstalled.
I even found a newer chipset driver at the dell website using my service code. The odd thing, according to my records of the 1st installation, there was no mention of 'Universal serial bus (USB) controller' not being installed. It showed that 4 drivers needed installed but this time, I had 5 uninstalled drivers which included the 'Universal serial bus (USB) controller'. And I always take a SNAP shot of the device manager right after a System re-installation to make sure.
However, all my USB ports appear to be working fine. I have tried to right click on the missing driver to search on the internet to no avail. I uninstalled the driver and rebooted. I just don't get it, particularly when all the USB ports are working fine.
The only different thing I did was I didn't install the integrated video drivers because I have a GeForce GTX 570 video card but like I said on my 1st install, the 'Universal serial bus (USB) controller' got installed before I even started installing anything. I keep a record of the installation process for future references. Thanks for reading this.
